Bahamas pet import permit requirements
Dogs and cats entering The Bahamas require an import permit. The conditions that apply should be checked against your animal, departure country, itinerary and issued permit. If your animal will stay aboard while the vessel is in Bahamian waters, ask BAHFSA and your carrier to confirm what applies before purchasing assistance.
Veterinary and vaccination documentation
Prepare readable veterinary records with your pet’s identifying details, vaccine dates and expiry dates. BAHFSA’s published guidance specifies an international veterinary certificate issued within 10 days of import, animals older than six months, vaccination evidence and parasite checks.
Dogs: rabies, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus and adenovirus. Cats: rabies, feline leukemia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia and pneumonitis. Ask your veterinarian to confirm timing and any origin-specific conditions. This is a preparation summary; the official requirements and permit conditions govern entry.
For departures from the United States, consult the current USDA APHIS Bahamas guidance and plan early. Check requirements for every port where the animal goes ashore and for the return journey as well.

Can I bring my dog or cat on any cruise?
Confirm your specific sailing with your cruise line before applying. Pet and service animal policies vary. Bahamas Pet Agents cannot authorize boarding.
Does a service dog need the same paperwork as a pet?
Carrier acceptance and government entry are separate. Ask the carrier about service dog documentation and have the government entry requirements checked for your itinerary; we do not assume every traveler has identical permit needs.
What if my animal never leaves the ship?
Ask BAHFSA and your cruise line to confirm your situation, including any transit or stay-aboard conditions. Do not assume either an exemption or an identical application requirement.
